FSC® Certificate: All Details To Know
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. To learn more, visit www.fsc.org.
With the climate crisis and sustainability themes becoming increasingly important, having FSC® certification in paper and cardboard packaging products has gained critical significance.
What is the FSC® Certificate?
The FSC® certificate demonstrates that forest-based materials used in a product come from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources. The certification process is conducted by independent, third-party certification bodies authorized by FSC®. These organizations audit and verify whether companies comply with FSC® standards. Once certified, organizations may use the FSC® logo and their license code on eligible products.
Types of FSC® Certificates
- FSC 100%: Products made entirely from FSC®-certified forests.
- FSC Mix: Products made from a mix of FSC®-certified material, recycled material, and/or other controlled sources.
- FSC Recycled: Products made only from recycled materials.
In addition, the FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification tracks forest-based products through the supply chain — from production to end use — ensuring transparency and accountability. This means that not only the manufacturing, but also the sourcing stages, comply with FSC® standards.
Therefore, a wide range of products such as cardboard packaging, furniture, lumber, labels, paper, printing products, books, magazines, newspapers, and tissue products may carry the FSC® label.
FSC®-Approved Carton Packaging Manufacturers
Companies and end users who take a responsible approach to forest management often verify whether the products they purchase are FSC® certified. For this, the official FSC® website provides a certificate search service where organization names, certificate codes, and license codes can be checked.
